About

Once upon a time, an historic home on the east end of Pearl Street was turned into one of Boulder’s first fine dining establishments. John’s Restaurant became a culinary landmark, and stayed that way for the better part of forty years. After his retirement, Chef John and his family wanted to ensure that the little house would remain a place to embody their legacy—an authentic space where the community could come to connect through great food.

River and Woods, we are working to honor that legacy, striving to build a true community restaurant that will serve an elevated taste of Colorado Comfort Cuisine. Like our food, the space itself offers modern whimsy wrapped in tradition.

River and Woods is a joint endeavor of Chef Daniel Asher and Josh Dinar. Daniel is the culinary wizard behind some of Denver’s buzziest eateries, including root down, linger, and Ophelia’s. Josh is a co-owner of the Boulder hotspot T|ACO, a co-founder of Boulder’s Restaurant Week, and publisher of DiningOut Magazine.

Together, they hope to breathe new life into this one-of-a-kind space, simultaneously paying tribute to its history and energizing its vibe.

To that end, River and Woods will offer a menu that is sourced from the most honest and local ingredients available, and serve food that is at once wholly familiar and infused with innovation.

We understand that comfort begins at home, and so we invite the community to share their own favorite recipes, some of which will be interpreted by Chef Daniel and his team and be featured on the menu at River and Woods. We call it community-sourced cuisine, and we invite you to share in it in every way.
